Your baby will eat when "he" is ready. Some people use fruit mixed with the cereal. Try plain mashed banana, many nursing mothers try tht as an indicator food to see if baby is ready for foods yet. A good, small food processor or blender will turn most foods into baby foods. Start with fruits and vegetables, singly at first, then you can freeze some in ice cube trays to use later. After they are frozen, they can be stored in freezer bags until needed. After you have tried the single foods to see what baby likes and tolerates, you can go to mixed foods, or pureed foods the family eats, before seasoning. Since baby is part of the family, foods the family eats, as baby grows to want them, can be introduced. Making your own baby food is not complicated, just remember,if it gives you gas, it will probably give baby gas, too. And babies experience foods with all their sences, including touch, so be prepared for a few messes as they learn to eat. Use disposable drop clothes or trash bags or something similar, under the highchair, that way, baby can enjoy eating and you don't have to worry so much about the floor.
And if baby does not like rice cereal, try something else. If that does not work, baby may not be ready for spoon feeding. Never use a plunger type feeder, they can cause choking, overfeeding, and baby getting food before they are ready.
Good luck.

It can be done both ways. I think it would depend on which food you are adding it too also. Peaches are thinner and could use more rice by itself, while some of the other foods are already thick and you may need to mix the cereal with a little water, juice or formula before mixing it with the food. Just play around with the thickness of the foods to find what your child likes best.

I mix in friut with it. She loves applesauce. Otherwise you can get the cereal that has the fruit already in it to make it more tasty.
I make all of my own baby food. Typically what ever we are having for dinner I will grind up in a food processer (blender and smoothie maker work well too) minus the seasons and then give it to her. There are certain things that I won't give to her, and that is pizza, tacos, you stuff that it really spicy or has a strong taste to it.
I also freeze baby food. I will blend up veggies, and fruit and then when they are done I will put them in ice cube trays. One cube is about the equivalent to a size 1 jar of baby food. Then when they are frozen I pop them out (run the bottom of the tray under hot water and they will come right out), and put them in freezer baggies. Then I have extra baby food on hand for the nights when we are having something that she cannot.

Everybody says just to mix it with some fruit baby food...but that can get expensive so my advice is to buy the cereal with the fruit already in it...check out the Gerber website for it its also in stores

Mix it with babyfood or applesauce. Also, mix some with expressed breast milk or bottled formula.
