Sounds like a Red earred slider

depending on where you are from makes a big different but I'm from Arkansas and the only turtles i know of with red lines on face are called painted snapping turtles they were protected for sometime and don't know if they still are if so you'd better get rid of it fast if you have a pond put it by it if not check with your local game and fish commission or look them up on the web to find out more about it

I found my red ear slider on the street too!

Release it to the nature (pond) unless you are willing to provide a nice big home for it, they need clean water, filter, basking light...
