I should believe the specialists as this is what the diagnosis has been three time.

I have suffered with a condition not dissimilar to acid reflux for almost 10 years now and understand how uncomfortable it is.

When you eat your stomach produces acid to help you digest the food. At night because of the position of the stomach whilst sleeping it's far easier for stomach acid to seep back towards the throat.

Firstly your doctor can suggest or prescribe an appropriate anti acid product for you which will help.
Though you will also need to make alterations in your diet and make sure you don't eat a meal too late at night.

However, by a process of elimination you can discover which foods make the problem worse for you and then stop eating those particular ones.

The worse ones are citrus fruits, spicy and rich foods plus alcohol. I had to read all the labels on food items I wanted to buy in the shops as many do contain citric acid.

Hopefully in time your throat will become less painful once the amount of excess acid produced by the stomach is controlled.

By ensuring you get the acid reflux under control then any further damage to your throat will be prevented.

Once this has been achieved eventually you may be able to eat some of the foods you had to eliminate initially. Although it is advisable to only eat them in small amounts infrequently.

I would definitely listen to your doctors. It sounds a lot like acid reflux, never had it but have had problems with my tonsils. You DEFINITELY don't want to get them removed unless absolutely necessary because it is a very long and painful recovery- worst surgery I've ever had. Nothing on the human body is symmetrical so its ok if they aren't the same size, it could be swollen because of acid reflux. Try OTC acid reflux medicine before you go to bed at night and if it worsens get a Rx for the good stuff :) If you have pains during the day try sucking on a Tums sure to keep it towards the back of your throat and don't choke on it(obviously). Tums are antacids and will help with any that is irritating your tonsil...

Good luck!

I have an acid reflux problem too and my doctor advised me to stop drinking coffee, softdrinks etc.

I also get the throat burning sensation sometimes. I'd often wake up with a weird feeling in my throat.

What you are throwing up is called bile, it's yellow and it has a very strong bitter taste and burns when coming up. It takes ALOT of throwing up to do it but yes it is possible to burn a hole in your throat. I know it is hard (I had horrible morning sickness/all day sickness too) and that its hard to eat but even if its just lettuce, unsalted crackers, rice cakes, or plain dry cheerios you NEED to eat something. You cannot go around on empty or you could end up in the hospital on an IV getting fluids to provide the 2 of you w/ nutrients. Eat what you can when you can and stay hydrated to prevent having to go to the hospital.

Indeed, that is acid reflux disease. Try Pepcid, or a prescription like Nexium. Lay off acidic foods and don't eat anything for at least 3 hours or more before going to bed.

Your doctor is right.

Stop eating acidic foods. No more coffee, tomatoes, etc.,. If there's actual damage (such as an erosion or ulcer), you will need further help from your doctor.

your symptoms are classic of acid reflux. did your doctor prescribe prevacid?

my brother had the same problem until he started taking it. now, he is fine.

calcium fortified rolaids or tums would help, but i think your problem is more serious than what those over the counter things can cure.
