The feeling is pretty mutual.

The same reason why two high schools may "hate" each other - propaganda and incitement of the crowd via pep rallies and bonfires. Honestly, 80% of the population is in the middle. Guess what? that doesn't sell newspapers, and it doesn't get people motivated to vote or to protest. So, the two parties do all they can to slant and bend the truths. In many cases, both parties have a valid point on a given issue; however, neither side wants to give in to the other. As a result, they will do anything in order "ram" their opinion through the courts or the legislatures. Its not just liberals doing this. The Republicans have their media machine out there doing the same thing. The difference is that the Republicans are trying to hold onto their power, which is far more difficult than to try to wrestle it away.
Unfortunately, when it is all said and done, "We the people" suffer for it. Laws get passed which do not represent the majority of people, issues such as immigration and social security do not get revolved, and the best people who are truly qualified for these positions refuse to run, since they simply do not want to expose themselves and their families to such a brutal onslaught of accusations and lies.

Liberals are raised in a bubble of sheltered reality, in which they are assured nothing is ever their fault; that they're products of their environment to such a degree that it's incumbent upon others to ensure the liberal can live just like everyone else.
With that comes a sense of entitlement, a skewed view of "fairness" that has cost us monkey bars, dodgeball and the act of picking teams on the playground for fear it might "exclude" or "offend" someone, even though such events can only serve to help strengthen the "excluded" or "offended" person by introducing them to an unavoidable reality.
All the while, liberals are told that the reason they meet resistance is because others are less educated than the liberal and simply don't "get it"; that if they were more educated, they too would back the banning of the word "Christmas" from public school curricula.
Thus, liberals hate Bush, conservatives and Republicans in general out of frustration at A.) not getting their way initially (see 2000 election) and B.) other, 'less educated' people not seeming to understand why the American majority doesn't share their F'ed up world view.

My humble opinion is that there is way too much political polarization in this country caused by over-generalization. Yes, I imagine that some self-proclaimed liberals would claim to hate some Republicans. But I would argue that true hatred of anyone or anything goes against the dictionary definition of the word liberal, and speaking as a liberal I can tell you that hatred, besides taking way too much energy to maintain, distracts us from finding the bi-partisan, cooperative solutions we need to our current global problems. I don't think Republicans are any more wrong than Democrats. I do think that our current administration stole two Presidential elections, dropped the ball by ignoring numerous warnings before 911, has greatly widened the economic gap between rich and poor in America, is currently waging war in Iraq for Exxon-Mobile and Halliburton, and done more to add to the global terror level Than Al Qaida (sp?) could ever have dreamed of doing.

I don't hate republicans.
Yes, I think their policies are insane.
Yes, Bush is driving the country off a cliff and destroying the Constitution.
Yes, Tom DeLay was indicted for money-laundering but it was the only time he was ever connected to anything remotely clean in his sordid career.
Yes, a lot of republicans in Congress are fundamentalist imbeciles (ie. Coburn, Frist, etc.) who want to force their religion on the rest of us (abortion, the Terri Schiavo case).
Yes, republicans lied us into a war that's created far more terrorists than it eliminated.
Yes, it WAS the republicans who took a record surplus and turned it into a record deficit.
Yeah, the republicans have made the rich vastly richer while working folks get poorer.
And, yes, the republicans have lied about everything.
But I don't hate them.
I just want their asses out of office come November.

no group hates that other, they are simply diametrically opposed to one another.
Each group feels the other is wrong based on their own perceptions and life experiences.
Do you think the Germans really hated the Jews? No, they were simply taught and indoctrinated that they were the root of most civil and societal problems.
The same to a lesser degree with liberals and republicans (as well as conservatives with democrats).
Its just a difference of opinion, and sadly most are not intelligent or educated enough to simply disagree.

Where have you been the last 6 years? As for Republicans not being racist, ask Sen George Allen what he meant when he called an Indian-American "Macaca". Ask Conrad Burns what he meant when he said terrorists drive taxis by day and Kill by night. I think the proper question is why do people still vote for these idiots?

Because most likely they're ignorant and uneducated. And republicans who hate democrats are ignorant and uneducated. Anyone who spouts rootless conspiracies and mindless hate do not deserve the right to vote. But that's a bit drastic. Mainly I just want to put them in a room so they can eliminate each other.
Saying all that, I'm a socialist.

Hate is a strong word. It is a difference of policy's and decision making. But is becoming more of the haves vs the have nots. The consistently eroding middle class should be a worry to everybody. It is a difference of fundamentals, I myself am open-minded and have respect for everybody who shows me respect. I do not "Hate" Republicans, but I share different views on life, and fiscal matters.

Sometimes republicans are seen as opposing altruism - in order words Republicans are sometimes seen as not giving a damn about anyone but themselves.
When someone (incorrectly) calls me a "bleeding heart liberal" I say "thank you" - although I don't think they mean it as a complement. I may also take the time to point out (to the relgious right types) that their saviour - Jesus Christ......was the ultimate bleeding heart liberal.
