The most dreadful story I thought I would ever see in my life was the Dunblane massacre. The scenes of the mothers running to the school had me shaking with tears.
The 9/11 occurred and again I thought nothing could surpass this.
In my opinion the worst news story for me (and watching the live feeds at the time) was the the Beslan school massacre. It surpassed 9/11 for me in that the terrorists mentally and physically tortured children over days on end, deprived them all of water, killed people in front of small children, had a perimeter of bombs around people, and left mothers having to decide whether to leave their eldest in the schools when some were allowed to leave with their babies. A dilemma none of us would ever wish to have. To top it all seeing all the little children running out in their underwear while being actively shot at was just beyond belief.
When I bought my Sunday paper that week a photograph on a front page of one of the little children apparently about to be burnt to death just had me burst into tears in a queue in the newsagent (I don't do crying in public places).
The effect it left me with was the dilemma of hate. The terrorists at Beslan were Chechens - many of whom had lost children and loved ones. I have never stopped thinking since then of the dangers of hate, and how there behaviour lost all sympathy for their cause. But it really proves that people aren't born terrorists - they are made.

WTC attack on 9/11
Because I just happened to be on call that day as customer support for a Wireless Communications equipment provider.
We spent the day trying to keep wireless/cell communicatons up in NY that day. We also began formulating a plan to use directional antennas to locate peoples cell phones (and thus the people) in the rubble. Of course, now we know, there was nothing left to find.
That hit home because we spent the day trying to help people call home and say they were all right. At the same time, we were trying to track down friends and co-workers in the area. I was never there, but it was one of the few days in my life where I was a small piece to the puzzle, but my contribution made a difference in the lives of thousands...even if it was only so they could make a cell phone call.
Still, at the end of the day, there were still thousands dead and there was nothing we could do to help them no matter how hard we tried.

9/11. It was the first time in my entire life that I felt unsafe living in the USA. It made me very aware of the fact that there are honestly people out there who do not recognize innocent lives, as I do. Using people that had no governmental or economical association, as human weapons. Killing so many people in the name of "religion"? All innocent people.
Now, please don't tell me that the USA has been doing the same thing for hundreds of years. That' s not true. I admit that civilians have been killed or injured, even our own service men with friendly fire, but not by choice.
What kind of people can support such an evil way of thinking?
This event has changed my life forever. It hasn't altered my way of living but - I'm packing punch because of it.

It was on 9/11 when our country was attacked by terrorism . It was traumatic to see so many lives lost . The impact is that we had to learn to be vigilant in our safety and survival . While our way of life has been threatened , our spirit has not. We adapt .
