nope.
The reperations paid to the japanese were monies paid to the ACTUAL japanese that were placed in camps.
The difference now is that we are SEVERAL generations away from the last living slave. Affirmitave action is the tool we use today for reperations.
BTW, where would this reperations money come from? You want to take it from ME? I didn't have anything to do with it, nor did my family, nor did my ancestors.
What about reparations for the poor white sharecroppers of the south?

The question is not whether to pay reparation to Africa and Africans in diaspora, but to whom. The biggest contention on this issue when it came up in the late eithies and early nineties was to whom the reparations was to be paid. Is it to the African countries or to Africans in diaspora who suffered directly from slavery and slave trade.
The slave trade took away from Africa their brightest future and hope. It set the continent backward in centuries. Their products both human and material were all carved away. Thier civilisation and culture were almost thwarted and the continent has since then been perpetually under the influence of the slave masters both economically and politically.
Africa had before slave trade set pace in civilisation. The history of modern medical science started in Africa. There are several other examples of Africa's mitigated dreams.
But the question is to whom the reparations should be paid and by how much.

Why not? They paid reparations to the Japanese 60 years ago. The gov't won't do that b/c they could give a crap about the poorest race in the country. They'd rather put them in jail. Right now, there are more young black men in jail then out and our gov't does Nothing to make the situation better. As long as all their rich buddies are taken care of with the legislation they pass, including massive tax breaks for the RICH, who cares what's happening to our young people.

The West does, in fact, give billions of dollars-worth of aid to African countries today in the form of foreign aid. Money, training and equipment are given to African countries to use in developing their nations.
Unfortunately, most of this aid goes to propping-up dictatorships and financing wars.
Regardless of how the West exploited Africa in the past, the majority of Africa's current problems are due to the actions of recent generations.
No one forced the Hutus to commit genocide against the Tutsis, for example, they did that on their own and there is no way to blame the West for the genocide beginning. Certainly, the West could have done more to stop it. But, once it had begun, the Hutus' campaign of killing gathered momentum on its own.
African dicators spend their own nations' money to wage wars and commit horrific acts against their own people. Yes, the West does give support to these dictators, but their armies are made up of their own people. These soldiers are killing and raping their own people, so the majority of the blood and guilt is on their own hands.
Regardless of how the West exploited Africa in the past, the people in power in African nations today are the cause of most of their nations' problems.

You do that while it is underway. You do not blame one generation for the evil of another. Basic morality. And let's don't forget that a good percentage of those ' slaves ' were palmed off by victorious African tribal chieftains to whomever would take the excess bulk of his conquered captives off his hands. Otay? If you want someone to foot the bill, let's serve it all around to ALL those responsible. Including not a few Sheiks, Ottomans, etc.

Ally, we paid reps to the Japs we interred ... shortly AFTER we interred them.
And why is it government's job to "make things better" for the black race!? How is it not their own responsibility to stop killing each other for shoes and trying to live the gangsta thug life?
God bless Bill Cosby!
Oh, and to answer the original question, no, America already paid its debt to slaves with the lives of 600,000 Union soldiers, sacrificed to free them.
