Mankind is very adept at limiting his own species to a sustainable level. Where you get hunger and poverty you get desperation as well as disease this creates a survival instinct, causing tension and conflict. In richer societies you have inequality of another kind; the haves and the have nots, this leads to envy, jealousy and greed this also creates a survival instinct, causing tension and conflict. Whereas a dog might be mans' best friend man certainly isn't. It's called population control and it comes to us naturally.
