True one for what? Every love is unique so the first love is completely different from, say, the 10th one. One has to define love and, what if you love 2 people or even 3, are they all the 'true one'. So, personally I don't believe this. In fact I don't believe there is just one true one but many in the journey of life. It is only society that conditions us as children to believe in these fairy tales.

Noone every truly knows they're in love. When you are 'in the moment', you are really around the level of crush-dom.
True Love grows with you, and you with it. It isn't a lottery and it isn't chance.
All platitudes aside, a true love is only exposed in history. Look back on the history of the one you love and you'll be hard pressed to find a 'bad moment'. And, when you do, it'll be meaningless when compared to the whole of the relationship. One can use this as a test for the one they're with, too.

Not necessarily so. Since most people experience their 1st love at a very young age, & we all have the capacity to fall in love numerous times in our lives. Just like lottery winners don't necessarily win a big prize on their 1st play, a person can't expect to find the love of their lives the 1st time they put themselves out there for someone.
1st love being my only true love, is a romantic notion usually born out of an unresolved 1st romance.

NO!!!!! Usually one's first love occurs at such a young age--mine was at 16. I'm now in my 30's and couldn't imagine spending the rest of my life with my first love. My expectations and needs have changed over the past 20 years. Thank God!!!

Not all the time. I met my first love when we were 6 and we were close all thru grade school but he moved and we didn't quite click when we tried to date. But we remained friends.

Maybe the most sentimental one, but who says there is only one true love? You might fall in love several times in your life.
