Well it stands for Multi Media Messsaging but in the old days you used to get charged for 4 texts.
Now multimedia messaging can cost 25p now even some pay as you go service will give you bundles where they are cheaper, check online. Also contracts will give you a really good deal where you get roughly 50 multimedia messages as part of your line rental.

Multi Media Message. A text message with a picture. Can be sent to another MMS capable phone, or an e-mail address.
