well as you said you work part-time every other day. i don't think it be approiate to ask for a chair.. Also it is good to keep yourself active while pregant. you want to be healthy and not gain so much weight. also i think that u shouldn't take off the busiest season of the year, cause it makes you look bad from being absent from work. especially with a baby coming, you will have to keep those extra days, and vacation for that child.

I worked as a cashier on my feet 8+ hours a day with my second child, right up until the day I delivered. Good thing that was my day off. ;) My doc said, no heavy lifting, no over exerting myself, and I needed to take at least a 5 min. break every other hour. I didn't gain excess weight because I was active, and it was a lot easier coming back to work. But that was me, everyone is different. You might not be able to do that. I had a very easy pregnancy. So if you think you need a chair, ask for one. It's not like you're asking for the world, your boss, I'm pretty sure, has to provide you a place to sit and rest when you're pregnant. I'd check into your state's labor laws if he throws a big stink over it. As for Christmas season, how far along will you be? If you're going to be in the last trimester, you might want to cut your hours down to part time instead of taking it off. At least then you can still earn a few more $ before taking maternity leave. Just a thought. =)

i worked retail up until 2 weeks before my son was born. i worked at the fabric department of a craft store called hobby lobby, so i did a lot of standing and walking. my son was born in february, so i was around 7 months pregnant during the christmas season, which is super busy. if i got tired i sat for a few minutes on the chairs by the pattern books when it slowed down. i did ok, my biggest problem was swollen feet at the end of the day!

there is no problem with standing several hours a day through pregnancy - though you may find that it tires you quicker than it normally would, try not to stay still - have a walk about.
some women will take advantage of pregnancy to get let off on the less desireable aspects of their job by faking all sorts of fantom problems & pain. this is often very obvious to co-workers & the boss, even if they dont say so they will resent it.
they will apreciate honesty - talk with your boss if you are suffering fatigue in early pregnancy & certianly as you grow larger - they will most probably be happy for you to have a chair or to delegate some of the more physical duties. if theres specific problems speak to your doctor who will declare you unable to work for a period of time.
being active pregnant during pregnancy is good for you - unless you have a specific problem - so carry right on with an active life - go to the gym & swimming etc.
when prople try to 'wrap you in cotton wool' remind them that you are pregnant - not ill. good luck & enjoy your pregnancy, i hope it all goes well.

Hi again! I worked in a walk-in medical clinic while pregnant with both my sons. I worked 3 12hr shifts a week. I worked up until the day that i delivered. I did wear support hose because I was on my feet most of the day. As I got farther along in my pregnancy (around 8th month) I would sit every chance I got. Even if for a few minutes. But most of the time, I was running and working my butt off! It's best to stay active...IF your doctor says it is OK. I walked almost every night that I didn't have to work. As far as Christmas...Why take off if your feeling ok? Gurl...you will need all your time off to rest up after having that little sweetie! But each person is different and each pregnancy is different. Write all your questions down and take them with you on your OB visits. I found that a lot easier because I would usually forget something and end up calling back after my appointments. He or she will be the best one to answer your questions and will know your current condition and if things are going ok or not. And if he or she thinks you need to slow down or be off work..they'll be sure to tell you. I have worked with women that were pregnant and you would think they were having near death experiences!!! All would be well but they used their pregnancy to get out of work or jobs they didn't really want to do. And I know that it wasn't really right on our part..but a lot of the other staff did resent her. If she were having real problems...believe me...we would have insisted that she take frequent breaks and let her do paperwork, phone calls or anything else to help her out. No one wants to see a woman lose their baby..but like I said...some people take advantage of others by using their pregnacy to get out of work or to get their way. I just wanted to kinda throw that in there...becuase you probably know how people are!! There is usually one person that just has to cause problems at the work place!! :-) and they will run their mouths to anybody that they can get to listen!! Take care and good luck!! Mitzi

There's a very real possibility that you could spend your entire pregnancy and up to 1 year after it on paid maternity leave.
I would encourage you to research the laws in your state for that and consider the advantages. If your doctor were to say that your pregnancy is causing complications that inhibit your ability to work, you could get a note from him to that effect and enjoy a year or more relaxing while getting paid every dime you would be at work.
Just a thought. :-)

Well it is safe to work standing for long periods of time isnt going to hurt your baby at all! You on the other hand might get really tired. Just explain to your boss the situation I'm sure he'll understand!

Talk to your doctor. And talk to your boss...If he's willing to cooperate with you, there's no sense in missing out on the pay if you dont' have to...but on the other side of that...if he's not willing to cooperate and you are really uncomfortable, you doctor can put you on restricted work or reduced hours or medical leave all together... I would talk to your boss first and see if he's going to be cool about it...if not..you can always talk to your doctor and he will make sure that your best interests are put first...even if your boss wont.

talk to your boss. he needs to know. get the doctor to write down your work instructions like lifting how much you can safely lift. and ask your doctor about being on your feet, have him write it all down and give it to your boss
