Since C.S. Lewis is one of J.K. Rowling's hero's, I am not surprised that people are thinking about this. I think both series have a LOT of parallels, and I would say they are both good on the same level. I don't think either one is overrated.
I quote John Granger:
http://www.ev90481.dial.pipex.com/harry_potter_granger.htm
"She [JK Rowling] has also said that she is a great admirer of the Inklings, especially Lewis. When compared with him, she says that Lewis is a genius and she is not, which response suggests that she sees him as something of a mentor. She admits to being physically incapable of being in the same room with a Narnia book and not sitting down to read it.
If she had not said these things, the many allusions to Narnia and Lewis's books on education and literature would have brought us to the same conclusion. The professor hero in the Narnia books, for example, is named 'Digory Kirke' and is Lewis's self-portrait; Dumbledore's forceful admonition to us in Goblet to 'Remember Cedric Diggory' is a flashing neon road sign directing critical traffic to her role model."

I think that Disney's version of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was really entertaining. But, the Harry Potter movies are a lot of fun too. I don't think either of them are overrated. Narnia tells a good story and has great visual effects and so do the Harry Potter movies. If anything, the Harry Potter movies are better because they don't just deal with good vs. evil, but elitism, racism, and slavery as well.

i don't think of hp is in simple terms too puffed up. i've got study the two series and love the two. it rather is talked some bit too plenty (even with the reality that with twilight series now, i choose it became stated extra :D). The series are diverse. Lotr is a extra of epic, traveling the entire middle-Earth to break some thing it is the only thank you to kill the undesirable guy. Hp is variety of a extra much less adventerous tale. Harry does not rather strike out and trip to kill voldemort. Voldemort assaults him and so then harry might desire to combat back. You mentioned hp became an basic tale, yet i think of it has a extraordinarily complicated plot (extra complicated than alot of books a minimum of). wow that became in intensity, lol. so i think my answer to your question is- particular, hp is slighty over-rated.
