Actually protien in your urine can be a sign of a condition called toxemia. This can lead to preeclampsia. Your doctor should do a retest or a 24 hour urine collection to see high much is in there. If it is high the doctor will monitor you closely because this can lead to increased blood pressure. Follow their advice and don't freak out. That makes everything worse. I had this problem with both of my children. They are fine.

Low amounts of protein are not uncommon, and may simply mean that your kidneys are working harder than before pregnancy. Your body may be fighting a minor infection, and the midwife may send your urine sample for analysis, to establish whether you have a urine infection , and of what type. You may then be prescribed antibiotics.

At the next appointment the midwife will establish whether there is still protein present, and whether the amount has increased. Increased proteinuria, as it's known, may be an indication that you are developing pre-eclampsia,

while I was pregnante with both of my children I had protein in my urine. I had to take a jug home from the hospital and urinate in it during my last month of pregnancy. i had to take it to the doctors office every 4 days and get a new jug. It doen't mean that your eating to much protein it can be a sign of preeclampsia. It will be something that your doctor should monitor.
