If you're buying new, look at Epiphone (which is a lower-priced brand of Gibson) and Squier (which is a lower-priced brand of Fender). I'm an experienced player and my main stage axe is a Squier Stagemaster. It's a very versatile guitar because it has two single-coil pickups for Tex-Mex, Jazz, Country, etc., but it also has a humbucker on the bridge for any conceivable type of blues, rock, or metal. It also has a double-locking tremolo system and a 24-fret neck, and I think I paid $200.00 for it. Now, I replaced the pickups to suit my own needs, but it was a great out-the-door guitar for the price and what it can do. Check out the website below for more ideas. Good hunting!

You can buy a Fender Telecaster Squire which is a good guitar for beginners and should cost you no more than about $150, or a regular Telecaster for about $650. I'm an old Fender man, myself, and I use 3 Telecasters on stage. I love them. They are not too flashy, but, the sound is great, they are simple to use and they are a GREAT workhorse solidbody electric guitar.

Any Fender or Epiphone is good for a beginner. Make sure you get a deal because you'll want to sell it when you get good.

Just remember, you get what you pay for.

One more thing, do you need an amp? If yes, go to Guitar Center and buy one of the Epiphone Les Paul packages that come WITH the amp.

GOING CHEAP IS NOT A GOOD IDEA. you are better off going to a good music store and buying a good used one. try to get either an american fender or gibson. epiphone is good but not the junior. always great deals on used are out there .if u got a guitar center go there.use u can hagle on price.

I would recommend a not cheap but decent ibanez. But not real cheap. The first guitar I got was an ibanez and it was like $250
