I’m a Dell reseller. A few years back they seemed to be such a great company. In the past couple years, dealing with them is getting to be more of a hassle. They have had a lot of failure rates in motherboards, that seems to be resolved, for the moment. I’m also started to see Dell systems that are not more than 3 years old, that Dell does not have factory replacement boards for (I’m using all MSI boards now). Dealing with Dell reps has become a complete hassle, and tech support is even worse. Dell seems to still have the better deals compared to the rest but it’s getting to the point, I wonder is it’s really worth it. Now it's more less that they seem to be the least of the evils rather than such a great company, what do you think?

I have to agree that the quality of Dell products has gone downhill significantly and that their customer service has followed along. At this point in time, I have started recommending that customers not buy Dell Laptops at all and if they buy a desktop, to buy it from the business side not the consumer side.

i've had several dells over the past few years and excluding some usual bumps in the road, nothing really major has gone wrong with them. I'm sure you'll get A's from each side saying they either love them or hate them. I neither love nor hate them but from my experience they seem to do okay. HP on the other hand sucks, plain and simple. gateways are okay too. and in this buyers market, whatever is the best deal will allways come out on top. as far as the hassles and tech support go, always make nice with a person who works in IT. and the hassles, well the bigger the company the more likely you are to run into them. gateway and especially HP are like that so there's no sense in complaining since nearly all the big boys operate this way. just part of the territory i guess.

Like so many other US corportations today, Dell seems to have become focused only on the bottow line and has forgetten where it came from!

If I call Dell for support of any kind I always seem to get an offshore person. I am not dispaging anyone but it is very frustrating to talk with someone who does not speak my language well and who only knows what to say to me based
on a script!!!

You may disagree but as I see it, it is the wave of Greed that
is sweeping or planet today!

Have fun but be safe.

Personally, I love Dell. They've been reliable, decent warranty's and all the computers run great. My Dell Laptop that I'm using now is amazing. The service and shipping was great and they had it delivered much sooner that I expected. I do agree with you though, It is much harder to contact and order from Dell now.. I dislike their 'Chat with a representative' feature, The representatives didn't understand my question, sent answers for someone else to me, and then asked me many questions, and all I wanted to know was how long the battery pack lasted.. Well, all this was from Personal Experience but I hope it helps..

From an individual user perspective:
Their products are as good as you want obviously as you can custom build the computer and upgrade the parts to the 'latest and greatest' level.
Their customer service is always fantastic BEFORE they receive your money.
As soon as they have your money, you're done. Their support has gone to __________ (u fill in the blank)
........AND, the word has gotten out to users in the know.

Dell has lost my 'personal' business forever.

From a larger business perspective where multiple computers and/or parts are purchased, they appear to be a little more apt to elevate their support to a level that might be a little more accomodating.
If you want to really get their attention, you can use the word "CHARGEBACK" (resend the charges back through your credit card transaction and return the computers). Your inquiry immediately gets redirected to a representative that has the power to authorize. And if you're really fortunate, he might even speak the English language!

Let me stop here....

For me dealing with any manufacturer's tech is a pain in the butt, with a little research you can practically know more than what they are going to telling you. I have dealt with Cisco, Seagate, HP/Compaq but never with Dell yet. Trying dealing with the manufacturer's with discontinued item, you will feel like strangling someone. Dell? You get what you paid for man. Tech? Patience and you need tons of it.

I agree it used to be better. But it is still so far the best that I wouldn't consider buying any other brand of computer.
