How do you control the audio alert when an e-mail arrives?

Sometimes it works,sometimes not. I like the feature and would like it on all the time.

I run windows xp on a dell inspiron laptop, with yahoo mail. does that help?

It should be either be on all the time or off all the time.
If you happen to have turned down your volume control
you won't hear it.

It doesn't go on and off all by itself.

Depends on what email system you are talking about.

My speakers, have the sound knob. So it's no problem.
