When this happens, does that mean the asker doesn't care about the question anymore? If this is so, then anyone who does vote on the answers makes no difference or has no bias, unless you happen to Re-visit the question to find that it has been dumped into the "in voting" bin, is it right that you can vote on your own answer, if you think your answer was best, or will you vote on an answer from all the others and pick one that is better, even if that one answer may be better than yours?

Sometimes the question has been sitting in "in voting" for more than two weeks, and if nobody hads bothered to vote, wouldn't that be the perfect opporutinity ti pick up an easy 10 points?

Well, I just happen to be browsing through my old answers last night and found a whole poopie load of questions that were sitting in "in voting",... I figured "oh what the hell!!". When I got up and later logged on today, I found I that some of those just got credited to my score, I've never had a 13 in a row before, so it must of been those questions I voted on.
There are a lot still in voting coz other people have voted, and the votes are still tied. But overall, I think I cleaned out my basement - so it will be some time before I try that again.

Hey somber_pieces ,

Yes, when that happens, the asker does not care or know enough to Vote for the best answer. So, it is up to the Answers community to pick the best answer. Then, it stays open for a period of time - determined partly by the asker (possible extension), and partly by Yahoo (standards).

Voting for your own has been discussed many times, they allow it. That is the way it is. Checking for O responses and answering is one way to get 12 points! 2 for the answer, and 10 for the best. It is a good strategy - assuming you want to get more points.

I found by voting my limit each day, I see more questions, and get more points, without affecting my Best Answer rate. Votes don't count against your ratio of BEST to Total Answers.

Also, when you ask a question - you should pick the best answer, because you get 3 points back, and a question cost 5 points. So, if you pick the best - your questions cost only 2 points.

After about 4 hours the asker can select the best answer or put it to a vote. If the asker does nothing for about 4 days the question is put to a vote for about a 3 day period. The asker can extend the time period for answers prior to that 4 day period.

It should not be in voting for more than two weeks unless its been extended.

Your statement about the 10 points is true about most questions after the 4 day period since most people do not vote unless it is their answer.

I had one question that I answered sit in voting for five months because the vote was tied.

I regularly check my own answers and vote for best answer just because it bugs me to have them sit there...Most often, I vote for my own answer, because most of the time I still feel it's the best answer. I have voted for others, though, when they were obviously better answers.
