A "pulled" muscle, or a strained muscle, caused by unusual activity; exercise, work, stretching, running, or just taking a misstep.
A 30 minute hot soak in a tub or standing under a hot shower should provide relief.
After about a week of pain free muscles, start a stretching exercise program for the paticular muscles that are affected.

Strenuous exercise, a lot of walking & stair climbing can make your muscles throb. If it keeps on, get it checked out by a doctor to make sure it isn't a blood clot. Two years ago I had what I thought was sore aching muscles in my leg. It turned out to be a blood clot. So, get it checked out if keeps on, or if you notice other symptoms like swelling, legs turning blue or purple, or veins start popping out. Hope everything goes well for you.

Working muscles that you don't normally use in day to day activities. Medications I imagine would have some impact on muscle tension.
Stress to could be another factor.

Stiffness is caused by lactic acid but if you have pain in the muscle this could be a strain or a rip

Sounds like possible muscle spasms. I agree with possible lactic acid buildup. Drink at least 8-8 oz glasses of water each day (if you are not on a fluid restriction).

it could be anything. overwork, too little potassium in your diet, underwork (being too lazy), sleeping wrong, and even just random muscle twitches/aches/throbs can happen on occasion for no apparent reason
