I work at a law firm. My boss wanted me to re-type a 10-page document because he made a few errors in a few paragraphs. The reason he wants me to re-type it is because he can't find the flash drive that has the file. Is there any software that would just let me scan the text and transfer everything to MS Word?

Yes there are - most scaners comes with some Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software that can convert the scanned image to text. It would not be perfect but you could get 90% converted. You may have to go in and correct spellings since it sometimes makes mistakes. ABBYY and simpleOCR are some examples of OCR software.

i dont know the exact name of the s/w but what you are looking for is called OCR, optical character recognition software. it will scan your text like a fax machine does except that the output text file can be input into WORD or other wordprocessor and edited.

search internet and use keywords 'ocr' and 'wordprocessing' or just search for 'ocr'.

good luck!
