No they do not. And that it's why they are sent. If they knew the reason why they were being sent a lot of them I am sure would refuse to go.

Well, its their choice to join the military. We have no draft, and probably won't ever again unless something like WW3 breaks out. So its the person's choice to take up arms to protect their country.
Think about it this way, if they do not know enough to die in a fight they volunteered for, then they don't know enough to voice their opinion in an election either.
Maybe we should start following Heinlein's strategy from Star Ship Troopers that you have to serve in the military before you can vote so you have experience and know what consequences your vote can have.

Intelligence and knoweledge of a particular subject doesnt qualify one to serve or not serve. Many many young people join the military for a variety of reasons. Whether they are politically literate seems to have no bearing on it. Furthermore one does not have to understand a cause in depth to be willing to fight or if nessecary die for it. It would be nice if people knew more about politics and got involved but its not a prerequisite for anything.

Some do. I'm 14 and know a shitload about politics. I even stayed up all night watching the election results in 2004.

At eighteen, most people don't know anything about anything.
I sure didn't. I dated a liberal hippie (yes, I did!) until about six months after I turned eighteen. Then, I dated an alchoholic pothead who had a bad habit of breaking into cars, and peoples' garages, and managed to get arrested three times throughout our rocky relationship.
I was an idiot. Now I'm married to a soldier, and I couldn't be more proud of him.
However, most people who join the military at eighteen (my husband was 22 when he joined) do so for one of two reasons:
Either because they want to serve their country, or because they want the college money.
Most of the soldiers I know joined later though, like mine did.
There are many who have a love of politics, and who studied civics extensively before joining.
I know that you're asking WHY it is that an eighteen year old can die for their country, but they can't drink. I'm afraid I don't have an answer for that.

May do. But I think there is an underlying factor there. I dont think a 18 year old is mentally mature enough to fully comprehend the meaning of life and what it hold for him/herself and others surrounding.

Nobody should be dying in wars. We should be above and beyond that as a way of dealing with differences. We're all part of the same race--The Human Race. Civilized people don't kill each other. With proper leadership we could head that way. We're all part of the same Global Community.

They should at least be smart enough to realize how stupid it is to join any military controlled by the blithering idiot currently sitting in The White House.

They don't need to know the politics, that is what Politicians are for. They need to know how to fight. They should be able to have a beer though.
