That equation is an inequation - it's not mathematically true.

1.005^36 = Approx 1.20266392727...

Divide by 0.005 = Approx 240.532785454

Clearly this is 12000.

Is there a variable that supposed to be in the equation?

There's no variable there, nothing to solve.
My guess is the answer is "no", 12000 DOESN't equal that.
(Is that meant to be compound interest?)
