Actually I have been in this situation,, my boss played a joke on me one time before a company Christmas party by telling only me that it was a formal gathering. wanting to look my best I rented a baby blue tux with the shoes at everything. I looked like a million bucks. When I arrived at the hotel where the party was being held I walked in and every one there was casually dressed and no ties were worn. It almost felt like I was naked. as they laughed at my venerability. so yes over dressing can be just as bad as under-dressing for an event.

If I overdressed in a party, i can use some gadget to let me looks more average, but If I underdressed to go to a formal prom or cocktail party, that will makes me feel Even worse than I am naked.Besides, there is nothing wrong with dressed up and maybe sometimes u 'll get overdressed. But it's better than underdressed.

I don't think everyone here quite understands the question. I am assuming you mean overdressed as in dressing too "dressy" for an occassion vs. being underdressed or "casual".
In that case, it is WAY WAY worse to be underdressed than overdressed. It's better too look classy than like a scrub.

Overdressed makes you look like a snob. Underdressed makes you look like a slob. Either way is bad. I guess I would rather be underdressed.

Definitely overdressed, no one would want a over makeup.
Being Overdressed get attnetion it would make you very uncomfortable with being stared at.
Underdressed get less with being stared at and be more comfortable. No one will notice you with underdressed.
Unless, you attend a special event, sure do dress up!

I would say being underdressed is worse. Who cares if you are overdressed and you look better than everyone else.

That's a good question. I think being underdressed is probably worse because you feel sloppy and rude. Being overdressed can make you feel haughty, but I think that might be better.

I would say underdressed. If you overdress for an event, that's okay because you can pull off diva glam at any time but nothing's more embarrassing than to be casual at a formal event.
