well there are some great things about the media these days. they get the news out there. and keep kids apprised of whats going on in the world which is very important for children these days because its a good reality check. on the other hand many networks and papers swing to the left or the right so they dont present an objective view of things

they shouldn't be influenced by media without their parents around. i think that is one reason our society is getting more base and rude... children need to be taught how to navigate society. that is what parents are supposed to do. media is blind with its messages, it just sends them without considering whether or not they are good or bad. its influence must be judged against our hopes for future society. if the goal is for all of us to become buying machines for mcdonald's, then media is really good at making that a reality. most commercials tell you how important and deserving you are of the products they advertise. does that make people into functional adults, or spoiled brats?

there is no way of discussing pros and cons without making that clear. there are no pros and cons without context. and that is what young children lack when they are exposed to our media.

Sadly too many parents use tv as a baby sitter so what is watched isnt supervised
Pros? cant thing of any to be honest, young children dont need to be aware of current affairs they need to be allowed to let their imaginations loose and be children
Cons: too many preteens are made to feel they have to emulate their idols, which are too often inappropriate media figures like lindsey lohan or ashley simpson, its wrong that little girls are thinking this is the best to aspire too, and even worse that little boys think this is the norm and what they can expect when they get older

every commercial out there. one of the worst is for tag body spray for boys. they even show one were the mother is popping her buttons of her shirt for a kid.
