It takes a little thought to have a clean turtle tank.
The first step is to use a big tank- 10 gallons of water per inch of turtle is a good start.
Next, lots of filtration- about 50-100% more than a fish tank would use is another good starting point.
Most keepers still need to do aggressive water changes, or use other tricks to keep the water clean and smell-free.

I am a turtle lover so I say that turtles are fine to have as pets. My cousin has a turtle, and his house doesn't stink. But it is true that some turtles can carry dieases. My freind also has a turtles. She tells everone that comes over not ot touch them because they could carry dieases. But, otherwise, turtles could be fine pets! ( I don't think turtles are that messy! ) GOOD LUCK!

Yes they can, but only if you dont take care of them. If you have a filter and clean the tank about once a month then you wont even notice theyre there. Or if you dont have a filter then just clean the tank once a week.
And yes, as stated they do carry diseases, but you can still hold them, and you dont have to wear gloves. I have no idea where that came from, just make sure to wash your hands when your done handling it.

yes they can if you don't take care of them! I have 2 that live in a big fish tank! My house smells wonderful! I found out the trick is to put something like a little swimming pool that they can go into so they can clean themselves! You should also clean there tank 2 a week if not more!

You have to keep the tank very clean as turtles cannot be paper trained or toilet trained. They are carriers of salmonella. Suggest you wear rubber gloves when handling and cleaning plus be sure to completely wash afterwards.

No!
Turtles are great companion!
If you have a water filter to filter out feces then they won't stink! I promise!
And just wash your hands before and after handling them.
They are quiet and they don't smell. Just like a dog if you don't bath it, it will stink too (like human and all other animals).

So long as you keep their tanks clean they shouldn't smell too bad. Although after handling them be sure to wash your hands. Handling reptiles has been linked to salmonella.
