When a file is deleted from the recycle bin, all Windows does is to remove the pointer that shows it where the file is located, and move that pointer a list of free spaces on your hard drive. It does not actually remove the file.
If you have an undelete program on your computer, you can run it and it will look at the free space pointer at see what files are located there. You may then be able to undelete those files.
But, since the file is on the "free space" list, if you save anything else before trying to recover that file, guess where it goes? Right over the top of your just deleted file. At that point, there is no chance of recovering it.
Do a search at download.com for "undelete" and you will find several free undelete programs. But odds are by the time you have saved it to your hard drive, and then expanded (saved) the files for the program and installed them, you will have overwitten some or all of the files. (I have used freeundelete from http://www.officerecovery.com/freeundelete in the past)
You can still try it. And then you will have the program installed should you need it in the future.

Have fun with that..... It's possible, but you need to get specific software that will allow for data recovery. Go to download.com and check out data recovery software, there are some free software. The data is not totally gone, there are only two ways that data can be totally gone. Smashing the hard drive is one way, the other way is to format the drive 7 times in a row. Data recovery software, most often must be run in safe mode. Before you see the windows load screen, press F8 to load into safe mode. From there load the data recovery program and hopefully it works

Ok, the fact that you were told that you could get stuff back that you deleted is true. however, there is one problem with that. your disk drive only holds so much information so when you download something new it will over write the "blank" information, anyways here's a link to get your stuff back http://www.download.com/File-Disk-Management/3150-2248_4-0.html?tag=dir
