Ok, I have a question for all the ladies out there. The other day I went to a question for girls only as well.A young girl was asking about when she might get her first period. Also I noticed ladies answering like they were trying to scare her out of wanting her period to come. Why is it that you can't just give them a nice answer instead of scaring them. You tell them stories of cramping and bloating when you could just tell her the answer to her question.

I find it frustrating that our young women are being taught that a period is a curse. I long for the days when we can celebrate the milestone where a girl becomes a young woman with the correct attitude. We are women and we should embrace the way our bodies work. All humans have the ability to create life which is an awesome thing when you take time to think about it whether you want to have children or not.

I didn't answer the question, but getting your period is a fact of life. It (to me) is a step through the door to becoming a woman, and is something to be celebrated. Yes some get cramps and some bloat and some don't have any of that happen. Nothing to be afraid of. Maybe the other answerer's were trying to tell of their own experience and just went too far.

Tthe sad things of all that is that many younge people don't have parents talking to them either CLEARLY or not: yes the period is crap but it's not a curse (even if it's for me)
Here you give your experience not a medical opinion, either you try to give real answers or you try to smooth one> It's s a matter of attitude not scaring.
When I told my daughter about the period, I hope wasn't like mine but it was, so at least she was prepared and she deals with it lly because I encouraged her not to give up her sports and activities> The good of the world is we have different experiences that make the whole picture. I sense a little of bitterness in your question, but I might be wrong.

I don't know to which question you are referring, but the fact is, well, those are the facts. Periods - as you know if you have had yours for a while - are inconvenient at best, miserable at worst. They aren't issuing scare tactics, simply stating the facts of life & reproduction.
I've had mine since I was 11 years old. I would love NOTHING better than to have it stop tomorrow. Alas, I'm just NOW starting to go through peri-menopause - which means I've got at least another 5-10 years of this crap - and I've had a period for 3/4 of my life already.
Periods suck. People are just trying to be helpful...

old ladies are just crabby that the girl doesn't have to go through cramps and they do. and you have to remember this is yahoo answers so no matter what, she's going to get opinions, not just answers. But you're right, I remember being young and curious. People should be willing to help, not trying to scare people into not wanting information.

I did not see the question but if I had I would have told her the truth and that many people use it as an excuse, and it is no bad it is a sign of becoming a woman.

very simple. this is the Internet sweetie, not Candy Land. People say whatever they want on these types of forums, it doesn't make it right but that's the way it is.
