It's not a matter of should, it's a matter of could, and yes. That's a perfectly reasonable age. I started at 12.

While I don't know if an 11-year-old SHOULD have her period, I can only tell you that my period started when I was just nine years old! So, I would say that it's entirely POSSIBLE for an 11-year-old to start menstruating.

There are websites that you can visit to answer some of your questions about this; I found one such site at:

http://www.4woman.gov/faq/menstru.htm

But if you can speak with your school counselor or nurse or another adult woman in your life (or even an older sister or cousin, as I did), that may be an even better resource.

Good luck in your search!

I had my period when I was 8, so I wouldn't worry about having it at 11. I think a later age like 11 would be normal.

It is normal for a girl to have her period anytime between 7 and 16.

The first period usually starts about the middle of puberty, at about eleven or twelve years of age. The first few periods are sporadic, and it's not uncommon for periods to be irregular for a couple years.

Different girls start at different ages. Some at 10- some not until 15. If your really worried about it, ask your Mom to see a Dr. If it's just everyone else in your crowd is having one and you're not, don't worry about it. You won't want it, once you get it. (pain, cramps, bloating, messy etc. UGH! This is from a guy!

I had mine when I was 10. Some kids these days are getting them as early as 7. It's attributed to bad diet (hormones in the foods) and sedentary lifestyle.
