I was just wondering about the topic. Some people believe that Jamaica should not support Venezuela as that would strain relationship between Jamaica and the US, which is staunch anti-Venezuela. Others think it is not of the USA's business who Jamaica support. What do you say.

My personal view on this subject is YES- Jamaica need political allies, free trade, exporting and importing - the island needs an infusion of capital to balance the economy and bring hope for the future of its' citizens. Isolation has created a terrible gap and I believe the more Jamaica does to distance itself from the US the better. They should try and build bridges with other Democratic counties.

Jamaica should definitely support Venezuela for a seat on the UN Security Council. It would be good to have Venezuela's voice heard. Venezuela's position is ideal as an American nation and a member of OPEC. Besides which, the Venezuelan president is one of the most articulate and interesting politicians on the international scene.

All we need is a world power like Venezuela on the Security Council of the United Nations. I mean she would wield her might so hard that others on the Council would be intimidated. What Jamaica should do is support the dissolution of the UN. It has proved itself useless, and it costs the US billions of dollars, never mind the lack of security because of all those who come into this country under diplomatic immunity.

I say, why would anyone support Chavez? It isn't Venezuela that's the problem, it's Chavez. Venezuela without Chavez could have anything they want, but Chavez is the biggest ego-maniac in politics, today. He has one agenda, and that is to discredit the US. That in itself, is a dangerous game to play, so why would any country play into his game plan? Why drag your self under the bus, when you can ride in the bus!
