LOL. Some of my questions are only asking for peoples' opinions on something, yes. Other times, I'll admit that I'm only making a statement, or trying to get a message out there.
The answer I choose as best depends. Sometimes, I'll choose a person for their honesty. Other times, I've chosen them because their answer was written in a respectful manner, with excellent grammar. There have also been times I've just chosen a person because they agreed with me.
So as I said, it all depends.

It's true. A number of people come here simply to vindicate their own point of view. Many others bring their sense of frustration and are trying to gain understanding. There are some who ask questions designed to get an in depth opinion from respondents. The latter group will usually put their questions out to vote rather than pick the best answer themselves.
In time, you become familiar with the different users on the site and their format. I have favorites that I like to visit. John Skerry, for instance, is like a fun-house mirror reflecting a very distorted view of the world. As crass as he might be, however, he is open to sensible dialog. Coragryph provides interesting answers to a wide variety of questions and always post thought provoking questions. Lawrence Louis gives the most awe inspiring answers to some of the dumbest questions asked.
There are many other people using this site that are interesting in their own unique way. You just need to discover them.

Actually, most of the questions I ask are to find out what other people think about an issue. While I may have formed my own opinion, to me the value in the question is being able to understand other perspectives. That's why I give Best Answer (when I do) based on the clarity of the position and how internally logical it is, whether I agree with it or not.

Actually I try to ask questions that I don't know the answer too..You can see for yourself. Check out my 360.
I don't know everything and I am certainly not perfect and its nice to see how everyone else thinks, what their beliefs are, and expand my own mind and thoughts by reading others.
Have a great Day! and by the way (thanks for the two points) J/K
