OK. I am 20 years old, I am in a serious relationship, but it is not just for birth control, it is also for very heavy and hurtful cramps and periods. And Midol doesn't work, it is not strong enough. I know about all the abstinance things and stuff like that, when you are engaged it is a little hard to refrain from your partner. Its not like I am sleeping with everyone and their brother here! I thought people would be mature about it, but obvisouly everyone not everyone is! And the girl who called me a moron, you should really check youself!

Birth control is something you need when you are going to be having sex therefore abstaining from sex is not what I would consider birth control. There are different options but the most reliable has been the pill but you need to find the right one for yourself and take it correctly. This doesn't mean that you cannot get pregnant while on the pill but there is a risk with any birth control method that it might fail. You may want to lower the risk by using the pill as well as condoms. The thing to remember if you take a pill is that they change the hormonal balance of your body so you may have to try a few to find the right one. Good luck.

I would talk to your gynecologist about getting on the pill. The pill usually helps with painful cramps, as well as reducing how "heavy" your flow is.

The best birth control is permanent sterilization either by tubal ligation or vasectomy.
