Do some reasearch on it. I did a quick check just now and found diets to help acne, and there appear to be controversial views on whether or not your diet can affect you having acne or not.

I personally would try a diet change before spending money on a medication though...but that's just me and I'm not a teen (41)...if I can positively change my condition through something as simple as changing my eating habits, I'd rather do that than take a pill, get a shot, smear on some cream, etc...

Our skin is the biggest organ of the body, so if the skin is unhealthy it could very well be that she is not eating healthy enough or getting enough plain ol water.
Some peoples systems are naturally acidic-- however and even with a healthy diet will continue to have some break outs.BUT..
There is a great product on the market called Primal Defense (you can get it on line or at health food stores, it is cheaper on line)...it does the same thing that DanActives does except like times ten.
Everything that happens in the digestive system shows in our overall health--so if she has ever taken an anti-biotic--EVER-- her system will be imbalanced. Anti-biotics kill good and bad bacteria.. The good bacterias need to be replaced with active cultures that help with digestion and preventing acidic systems. I think with a moderate change in diet and the addition of this product her skin will balance out nicely. You know you just can't tell a teen "no fries--ever" But if she cuts back and uses that stuff for special events it should be fine. Also, cut way back on Cola and--strangely--orange juice--too much acid right now.
The problem with teens is that they want results NOW and the diet change will not make an immediate change in her skin. As matter fact, when she starts drinking more water and eating more veggies and hopefully taking that supplement (a PRO-biotic), her skin may purge and she may initially break out more. And then it will stop and her skin will glow.
Make a bribe with her that if she tries this for 6 months and sees NO change you will get her the Pro Actives (which is quite a harsh product by the way--very drying) I know they don't advertise it that way, but I have seen its disasters as much as I have seen the TV miracles. I've even seen teens with the beginning of pre-mature crows feet because they got the products too close to their eyes.

Good luck!!

Well, I heard somewhere, (I can't remember where) that although eating rubbish does not effect your skin, eating healthily can help it, especially drinking lots of water. So it might be worth her try just eating a little more healthily and certainly drinking lots of water (if she doesn't already), but she doesn't need a complete diet change, because like I said, junk food won't make her skin worse, it just won't make it better either.

Oh, and if I were you, let her try the ProActive, just for the quiet life.

FALSE. The phrase, " what you eat is what you are" is very much TRUE. Just as our body obsorbs the nutrients from the food we eat so does our skin. If we eat fats, oils, and sugars, that's the type of nutrients that we are feeding directly to our skin. Eating healthier foods such as fruits, vegies, and dairy with plenty of hydration will definetly help skin to clear up, look cleaner, and feel cleaner and healthier too!

I've been battling with my skin for years but its got so much better now I've cut out Glucose-Fructose Syrup, check the ingredients on food its in a lot of stuff! Also I use Aloe Vera gel on my face before I go to sleep. The problem is usually down to not keeping your face clean, make sure she cleans it morning and night in cold water. If all else fails go to the doctor, they usually have some good ideas up their sleeve.

I dont think everyhthing in her diet will effect her skin.. but I do know for a fact that oily, greasy, salty foods do have an effect. So tell her to stay away from food like potato chips. or really any junk food for a while. Then she can be the judge of it herself if her skin looks better or not.

do not fit it. it's bad enough just being a teen. I use proactive and it has helped me out a lot and I do feel better about my self and now I have been looking at what I eat to just loose a little weight and to feel even better about my self. So I think that if you get her the proactive maybe she will start looking at what she is eating. hope this helps.

Nothing is more true than "You are what you eat". Watch what overweight people eat, skinny people, people with acne, etc.. Your body gets rid of toxins through the skin pores. If your daughter eats greasy food, the grease will come through the skin from the largest pores which more than likely are on her face. Tell her to eat more veggies and stay away from cheese, fats, chocolate, meat high in fat, excess sugars, etc.

acne is hormone driven, not driven by foods. eating healthy foods will not alter her hormones, so it will not alter her acne. get her the proactiv that she needs, or else you risk raising a child with 1) an eating disorder, trying to sneak in the foods that you don't allow and 2) poor self image and low confidence when other kids make fun of her acne and tease her for being somehow unclean, through their ignorance believing that acne is the result of dirt and sweat, when it is actually completely hormonally driven.
