I have seen several videos of the BMW 3-series and 5-series cars struggling to beat the Subaru Impreza (WRX Turbo) in racing contests. So, is it true that BMW is no longer the fastest car?

As a Subaru owner I can attest. Subaru's All Wheel Drive is the best in the world. It pulls the WRX off the line quicker than the BMW, after that the easier clutch, smoother shifting and all around better car prevails.

Look, it all dpends on which 3 class and 5 class vehicle you,re talking about, and which WRX Turbo generation you're specifying. If you take a bone stock Version 7 (02-03) WRX yes you will be faster than any 3 series or 5 series (Excluding M3, M5, 335i coupe and 550i sedan) But if lets say you take a WRX STi you'll be just as quick as an M3. It is also a good point that BMW doesn't produce the fastest car in the world, its the Veyron from Bugatti.

I've seen a BMW M3 waste a Subaru Outback. Obviously this doesn't mean that BMW is as "fast" as Subaru. The WRX STi was born to dominate offroad rally races, and the M3 was born to dominate Nurburging Nordschleiffe. It is ridiculous to compare these cars together, as they are designed for completely different markets and niches. You're better off comparing apples and oranges.
Being an M3 owner, and a passenger in a friend's STi, I can personally vouch that these two cars are far too different to be compared in a "racing contest."

Although BMW are fast, very fast, there are of course vehicles that are faster. But, in their specific class, bmw is always at or near the top. The bmw M3 is a luxury sports car, the same cannot be said for any subaru, or japanese car for that matter. If bmw would wanted to build a car to compete with the STI, they would and they'd kill it, but that's not their prospective market.

impreza's are wayyyyy lighter than bmw 3-series or the 5 series.. i have a 330ci 2004, and i can honestly say that subarus have a faster take off than my car. but then again , if the driver is good in racing and he/she knows how to handle the car then it doesnt matter what car you're driving..

lol I have a 95 civic hatch with a B16B LS V-tech and I can smoke a M3. I never raced a M5 but Im sure it would not be much of a difference. STI's are really fast cars not only cuz the turbo makes RPM's go up faster but cuz of the all wheel drive. Trust me BMW's are not all that. More luxury yes, power not really impressive.

bmw is better on top end the subaru is lighter but the m3 or m5 have a different torque setting to standard bmws its only the 4wd that helps a subaru so bmw is still quicker

If your're comparing an M3 to an STI the STI will eat it up all day. Actually alot of cars will eat the M3. The M3 is just a good combo of decent performance with comfort.

BMW is not fast but my My M3 fully mod is beat every almost single honda and couple subaru.
