I have a habit of crossing my legs and shaking my foot either when I'm bored or nervous. It is unconcious. Why do we do this?
Is this a sign of anything other than nervous, boredom?

When you do this is important to note. If you are alone it my be nervousness, however if you are in the presence of another person could a metaphoric gesture of shooing away that person, you may not agree with what they are saying or just find them iterating.

I shake my foot when I'm bored too. I don't think that it's anything to worry about as long as you are not having tremors or anything.

I think its more or less a habit we develop overtime as it relates to certain emotions or happenings with our body. Overtime our body associates shaking legs with the type of emotion or happening from previous experiences therefore it triggers certain brain activities that just alerts our body to react this way when we experience those same emotions in future. Thats just my theory.

i believe it is to do with the fight-or-flight response... in response to stressors, peoples bodies dump adrenaline and other chemicals into the blood stream in preparation for physical requirements... the muscles tense, blood pressure and pulse increase... bouncing ones foot is a way to unconciously try and release some of that energy....

Physical movement (gum-chewing, foot-shaking, finger-tapping, hair-twirling, etc.)

-->tension release.
