My partner has a lump in her breast and she has had it for about 3 and 1/2 months now. She has been to the doctors for a second time this week as it hurts her, he has told her that she has to wait for about another 6 weeks before a test. Is this the norm as she is prepared to wait. Her mother passed away 8 months ago with breast cancer and it just seems a long time to wait. Any proffessional advice please. Nick

I would go to a different doctor and get a second opinion. A coworker of mine is in the hospital with breast, ovarian, and lymphnode cancer. It is never good to wait when it comes to cancer. Good Luck.

When I found a lump in my breast G.P. faxed consultant for an appointment, I received appt. for a mamogram which I had 7 days later and 2 days after that I saw the consultant, who arranged for the lump to be removed two weeks later and had the result a few days later. Within 4 weeks I had, had the all clear. All this was done on NHS. I have no family history of breast cancer,so your partner should be given priority. See another G.P., and if all fails tell them you will pay to see consultant cost of about £150, then you can be transferred to NHS. Good luck to you both and God Bless

I would get a second opinion you should not have to wait that long especially when it may be hereditary, keep hasseling the doctor, after all if it did turn out to be cancer you would kick yourselfs for not pushing.

Good luck with the results xx

Yes, from what I understand guidelines are that if there is a suspicion of cancer then you should be seen within 2 weeks. Speak to the local PALS service or see another doctor.

Government guidelines are that no one should wait 2 weeks for a mammogram. She should go back to the doctor and insist she is soon sooner.

that is intolerable. putting something like this off, especially with a familial history of breast cancer is wrong. she needs to find a new doctor, preferably a female one that specializes in women's diseases and SOON!

Must be NHS. I find this appalling in the UK. Treatment should start immediately and thats all there is too it.
Mammogram and then biopsy and then go from there.
