We've always had dogs (an alsatian and a border collie x) but when they died we inherited my nieces kitten. My son really wants another dog. Can you recommend one which is good around cats? Thank you in advance.

I have a cocker spaniel and he absolutely loved my cat. When we mentioned my cats name he would start looking for him on the couch, chairs, and under the couch. Later we got three baby kittens He didnt harm one of them. He at first kept his distance (scared they were going to take his place) but finally warmed up to them and they laid together.

All canines are evidently prey pushed to a pair degree - cat aggressive. Small canines at the instant are not any exception, I even have 6 dachsies on the 2d (I foster and characteristic 5 of my very own) - the two smalllest ladies, 8 lb. and 9 lb. longhair who look like lovable little lap canines - are the main cat aggressive of the group. the only one that fairly isn't is my 20 lb. typical who grew up with a kitten. the significant right this is guy or woman canines --- not breed or length of canines, regardless of the reality that looking canines and canines bred to combat different canines (pits) are greater prey pushed than others. Your maximum suitable wager may be to pass on your community shelters and ask in the event that they have a canines that grew up around cats and co-exists with them. A domestic dog raised with a kitten could desire to be o.ok. too, yet person cats do not often tolerate a domestic dog's tough play - pass the safeguard direction, there are guy or woman canines shown to get on with cats - there rather isn't any rather breed it is guarantied to. via the way, the canines on the Cesar nutrition tin is an extremely lovable little terrier - yet another prey pushed canines, fairly lots guarantied to desire to desqueek your cats. length isn't the project - prey force is. My dachshunds have killed possums and that they might not hesitate to attack wild pigs - they specific desire to if i might enable them to get out.

pretty much any dog is okay around a cat if you introduce the cat to a puppy and a kitten to an adult dog or if they are both young and they grow up together. if they are around each other when young they have a better chance of getting along

I am going to suggest getting a shelter dog that way you can have the dog that your son picks cat tested...that's when they put a cat and dog in the same room and see how the dog reacts. Shelter pets are the best pets! They will love you forever!

My opinion, I think as long as a dog/puppy is raised with a cat, they'll be ok. If you're looking at a full grown dog, just have to see if he likes cats. My one dog from the pound-black lab/chow or pit bull???? must've been raised around them, she'd play with them, they'd give each other baths. My second pound dog-shepher/yellow lab, I don't think he even knew what a cat was. Brought the cat to him, he looked at it for awhile, tried to bite it.......

a calmer breed would work. Labs are a good choice anyway...or if you adopt, ask the adopton people. Maybe one of their dogs is already used to cats!
Or, a puppy, who will grow up with the cat, & get used to it on the cats terms.

As long as the dog is raised around the cat it should be fine. Don't get another herding dog; instinctively they will chase and herd.

its not the breed, its the dog itself, I've seen rots, Shepard's,goldens, mutts with cats and there has never been an issue, don't get a Little yappy dog, i think big dogs know they a bigger thus being gentle..I've also seen my golden rip apart bunny's and eat them, but she has never snapped or shown any kind of aggressive behavior towards our cat or our neighbors cat, we had the cat first..

Labs are very gentle around cats. I have a Rottweiler mix who is also good with my cats.
