i think the U.S. has done this many times before. I mean, if you look at it, the U.S. said that the Soviet Union, People's republic of China, North korea, and many others have to stop their nuclear weapons program. and now look, Russia and China both have nuclear weapons, and what the U.S. said did nothing. So right now, the same thing is going to happen. Iran is not going to stop.

I believe it would be wrong to deny any country development of technology. Nuclear technology has a peaceful use as well as military. Countries such as Germany, Checz Republic, Slovenia, Croatia and others have nuclear power plants and therefore they have nuclear technology. I agree that the risk of Iran abusing the technology to create weapons is high, however, that is only my opinion because Iran is a Muslim country and any non Muslim country is afraid of Islam because of recent events. Another point is that perhaps Iran wants to develop nuclear technology to provide clean energy for it's people and thus creating a better life for its people. Even if they do develop weapons, they might do so for self defense. Do you think the USA would have attacked Iraq if they knew that Saddam had nuclear weapons. I doubt it. The USA and other western countries (I'm a European, just so that you know) are afraid of advancement of other countries because that would mean that they would lose their power over the world which is a normal reaction, but it is not fair. If one country is allowed to have a technology, other countries should be allowed to have it. I don't approve of one country policing the world because their sense of justice might be different from mine.

What you fail to take into account is that Russia was developing Nukes originally at the same time as the US. Scientists from Germany were more or less split between the West and the Soviets. So the US was in no position to stop the Soviets, without risking full scale war with Russia.
When China began developing nukes the US was in opposition, but it was also at the height of the Cold War. Attempts to stop them militarily would have again risked a major war with the Soviets.
Korea was given all the technology to enrich uranium by the Clinton administration in return for a promise that they would not do it. We saw how well that worked out.
Iran is truly standing in defiance of world opinion with even the UN demanding they stop their program. You need to understand that someone will bomb Iraq if they do not stop their program. If not Israel then it will be the US, of this you can be almost certain.
The problem with Iran and Korea is that both countries have fanatical leaders. There is no adaquate nuclear oversight in these countries, and the world cannot stand by and wait for them to launch these weapons against other countries.

If Iran does not stop the enrichment program it is running someone will bomb it. Let it have nuclear energy but it must never be allowed nuclear weapons. It is one of the few countries in the world which would happily use one even if it meant they would be wiped out in retaliation.

Here comes WWIII.

Only after the USA, Russia and Israel (that are either yet to comply after 30 years of signed NPT treaties or have outright said "no" to the UN on halting similar programs) have stopped nuclear programs! It will be one standard for every nation or none at all!

We have nuclear and arms crisis because of the USA, Russia and Israel. There will be no big boys running around with toys while everyone else just complies! You - USA, Russia and Israel - must first comply and stop!

I have to agree. The United Nations won't do anything about it. According to the Nuclear Non-proliferation Act (1970), only the big five countries were supposed to have nukes; now 9 countries have them. If they didn't stop the other four, they won't stop Iran either.

And Iran knows that the United States won't take military action at this time.

I'm not as worried about Iran having a nuclear program as I am what I am IF they get a bomb!

The present group in power is just crazy enough to use it!

Has anyone ever considered the possibility that if Iran has nuclear capabilities it may cause israel to tone down its terroristic activities and settle down? I think it will be inevitable anyway. If they don't develope them they will buy them from China or Russia! In either case they obtain the device and besides they don't have the delivery capability yet!
