You know what really bites about that? I bet they're the same people who would get really annoyed if I were backing up to correct parking too close and they happened to drive around the row of cars really fast and end up near me as I back up. I bet they're the same sort who'd honk and become belligerent with me for correcting my bad parking job. Sometimes women are so petite they don't operate the big vehicle as perfectly as a small one...so they should take time to throw it in reverse and re-park...unless someone is being rude and won't let them and seems like a threat.... Then I guess they'd just sit in their suv and talk on the phone about soccer while someone had to crawl through or wait for them....

It's because these people (sorry mostly women) have to keep up with the Jones and drive these really big suv's, that they don't know how to drive-because they're so big.
I personally love when people do that to me, I have a little Toyota with numerous shopping cart and car door dents/scratches from other people. I just make sure when I open my door, I do so very hard and with a lot of force, right into the idiots car that didn't bother to park correctly. Screw em.......

Every freakin' SUV that parks in the garage where I work slants in with their damN rear end across the next parking space. I watch them every morning....they cannot put their fuc*king phone down long enough to park right. When they get out of their vehicle they don't even notice because they are so engrossed in their phone call. Some as*hole scraped the side of my vehicle this week...it is a champagne beige with a red streak down the side from someone else's vehicle....makes my blood boil.

Sometimes my parking sucks and sometimes I just want to be a jack ***. Not all soccor moms do that. I've seen men do it too and teenagers. And not every soccor mom is on the phone when they are trying to park. I never talk on my cell phone when I'm driving. Have you ever drove a SUV? Sometimes the parking spaces aren't wide enough for them. I'm skinny so I just crawl threw whenever it happens to me.

A parked car is not moving. It is just sitting there doing nothing. A moving car, or a car with a moving car door is the one that can cause the damage. It does not matter if it is the driver driving the car or opening the car door or his passenger opening the car door, it is up to them not to do damage to the parked car next to them. It does not matter if it is "just a dent" or you cave in the entire side of the parked car, you caused the damage so you are responsible for it. But yes, your cop out is true, you are not responsible because you are the passenger. The driver is responsible for what happens with his car and because of his car. So the driver is going to have to pay the damages. BUT, the owner of the parked car can sue you anyway. It will be up to you to sue the driver. You get to be both the defendant in one suit and the plaintiff in another. Lucky you. All because you did not take a little bit of care in opening a car door. Yes, he has the right to sue you. YOUR best move would be to pay for the damages to his car. That way you will not have to pay attorney bills on top of it. FYI, the guy is going to win. Better fix the damages ASAP.

I have the same problem at my College. The spaces are so little to begin with, and then you have some big *** SUV or truck on both sides of you and you can't get in or out.

well if you don't like how we park then park way way way out in the parking lot. why do you have to always have the closest to the door parking spot? shouldn't they be left for the elderly, handicapped and women with small children?
