Much like a cordless telephone. Think of the router as the base and the other computer as the cordless phone. You will need what is referred to as an wireless adapter.

The two computers communicate with each other, and to the Internet, through the router. Each computer needs its own connection to the router. For a wireless connection, each computer needs a wireless network adapter (usually built in on laptops). Most wireless routers also have regular Ethernet ports on the back, so you could plug one end of an Ethernet (network) cable into the router, and the other end into the computer's network port.
