Here in the UK there are a few...

A B.Ed (Bachelor of Education) qualification basically teaches you to teach in state schools. It will take three or four years to complete (depending upon the subject it is based around).

If you already have a degree (three or four years spent focussed on your subject alone) you can do a one year P.G.C.E (Post Graduate Certificate of Education) as your I.T.T (Initial Teacher Training - oh how the education department love these acronyms!) which will teach you how to teach your subject - a little bit of theory and masses of experiential placements in schools. Teaching is one of those things that you really only learn from doing. Once you have done the year you become an N.Q.T (Newly Qualified Teacher) and must then do one academic year in a school (3 terms - they can be split between different schools, or done over a couple of years) to have the N.Q.T epithet removed. Then you are accepted as one of the ranks of the damned (without even Rat Scabies or Capt. Sensible to lighten the load).

There are some other forms of entry to the profession if you have a degree in a relevant subject and/or many years experience in a relevant industry (eg: Financial - banking, accountancy etc; Engineering; Art & Design and so forth) you can apply to do a form of 'on-the-job' training in which you are actually employed by a school who will then train and support you through all of the relevant skills and experiences necessary to gain full entry into the profession. One of the beneifts of this method is that you are being paid whilst you learn (albeit at a reduced salary) - but you really can have your head done in from what I've seen of collegues doing this route.

Teaching can be really rewarding. It can also be really harrowing. But it is rarely boring.

Well, any idiot can get a teaching license.

In order to be qualified you have to be willing to go the extra 10 miles to get the job done. Willing to work more than the 35 required hours a week and a savings account. You have to have heart, the ability to improvise, skill in bringing advanced concepts to a much more manageable level, a positive attitude to resist the hateful majority in the teaching profession, and most of all you have to genuinely care about EVERY childs long term success. And most of all, you have to be structured, well spoken, and strict. Or else you are going to destroy your kids

If you aren't willing to work tons of extra hours, reinvest some of your money into the classroom, or dedicate every second of your meager 7 hour day to kids and kids alone (not your own selfish self-interest) then you should be run out of the classroom.

When we were born our first teachers were the people who brought us up either ur mum, dad, granny, etc
So being a teacher doesnt always mean u have to have a degree, but its also dedication from the heart
if u have the passion to help children or adults its because u have the willingness without asumption.
You need to be full of ideas, cheerful, able to solve problems occuring and most of all caring and being a friend to your students.

thats all

It means what grades/subjects are certified to teach in?

E.g. special ed certification, physical education certification etc.

However if you are moving to another country , province or state, it mayalso mean what degrees you have and are able to legally be certified to teach in whatever area it is you're going to.
