I don't understand why I have trouble finding "real" friends. I've just been let down by my so called friends. I mean I'm not the type of person that just meets someone once and just starts saying "We're best friends now!" These people I've known since childhood. I lost 3 close friends when I became engaged. To make a long story short, it came down to them asking me to chose between them or my fiancee. Obviously I chose my fiancee because my "friends" showed their jealousy. Then it came to the actual wedding day. I invited about 7 "friends" including my best friend of 20 years. I got confirmations from them all. Only 1 showed up. And it wasnt my best friend of 20 years by the way. That was 2 mths ago.I havent heard a thing from anyone. My Grandmother passed away last month. Everyone knew about it. But yet no phone calls, no cards, emails, Nothing!!! I don't trust people outside of my family anymore. Am I wrong or should I try to make new friends? What's the point of having them?

I know that can make you a bitter person, but don't let it. These so called friends {including the 1 of 20 years} were never your true friends in the first place...obviously. Was it that they didn't like your fiance personally? even if that was the case, a true friend would have been there for you anyway. Make new friends and don't let your bad experience make you treat them any different if you can help it,..you have to try. As the old saying goes,..you find out who your true friends are when you really need them. You usually don't have as many true friends as you think you do. wish you all the best,..oh yea,..sorry about your grandmother.

I don't think the problem is all with your friends. There must be something about your attitude or how you treat them that causes these problems. People who are best friends don't suddenly lock you out of their life for no reason. You need to spend some time thinking about why these situations have occurred, or reach out to one of your friends to find out why. Are you the type of person who cancels plans with your friends when a date with your fiancee comes up?

Friends, like that are not real. Basically they only care about themself and not you, they told you to dump your Fiancee....that's them being jealous of you, for you are moving on and they are still the same old, I guess it's time to let go of them and get new ones..... they are the past now's the future and you have learn from that so now you'll not make any mistakes again..

hmmm... I feel ya. It use to be hard to make new friends for me, I joined www.myspace.com tho and I've made TONS of friends, that I hang out with on a weekly basis and talk to every day. Its so much fun... also, those friends werent very good friends to try and make you choose like that, and I dont believe you were in the wrong for this. They are just crappy people who like to pull other people down... and its wrong on their part. They probably didnt call you because they know they messed up... they arent stupid. So just move on, let them go... make new friends.... Like i said... Myspace has changed MY LIFE... I've made so many friends that are actual real life friends now... Gives us all a way of chatting online and then perpetuating the relationship in real life. Good luck

Well it sound like to me they were not friends. It is hard to trust people anymore and because they have shown their true colors now you know they are fake. Just take it as a lesson learned. Good friends that are true are hard to come by.

family is family and friends are friends only. hence there is no point to treat friends as family members.
