I am looking for a two bedroom, preferably in the Capitol Hill area. I've looked all over Craigslist, Washington Post, and the City Paper. Everything is either too expensive, or the competition is too fierce. Does anyone know of any alternative resources, either newspapers or online, where I could find listings for Capitol Hill? Thanks!

Try contacting a local real estate agent. They will know everything there is to know about affordable, safe options. A really good website to browse local real estate/real estate agents is: http://www.realestateforsaleindc.com

It's really easy to navigate and is full of info about realtors with links to their personal websites. Most of their websites will have all the available homes/rentals in the area along with community info, so you can do some research before you contact anyone. Hopefully that works for you. Good luck!

Capitol Hill is EXPENSIVE. And yes, competition is very fierce. Those are the two realities in the housing market in the Capitol Hill area

If you are in the area, I suggest you talk to some building owners. They often provide housing for interns, and they may be able to refer you to someone who has a 2-bedroom place for you. But it still won't be cheap. There's nothing cheap in the Capitol Hill area

If you want cheap, move northward to NE area or to the SE area (though avoid Anacostia). The areas around the Catholic University are cheaper; though not as chic as Capitol Hill (and yes, more crime).

Call a real estate agent! There are hundreds of apartments available in and around DC. Your agent will print off a list for you for free, and the landlord pays the commission, so you don't have to worry about that. Good luck.
