They are called con lai (half breed) in Vietnam. I am a con lai, but was born in America.

The con lai children were treated terribly by the communist Vietnamese. If they weren't outright killed after the war, they were forbidden to go to school and then forbidden to take jobs. Often their mother would abandon them because the communists would punish them for having children with Americans.

Con lai are offered immediate green cards and visas to America if they are able to prove they are con lai. This has caused con lai to become very popular among the Viets looking to immigrate to America. Con lai are offered a lot of money to marry a non- con lai.

Despite what appears to be an easy process, the INS beaurocracy and other issues tend to make it very difficult. Quite often con lai, are refused visas, despite having blonde hair or African physical traits, because they have non paperwork proving that they are who they are. Those who make it here often find they are rejected in our society as they were in Vietnam.

The con lai that immigrate to America find it very difficult in our society, because they have no education and grew up in a very tough environment. Many of them are developing their own society here though. Con lai are often found as shrimp fishermen along the Texas and Louisiana gulf coast.
