does the color affect how birds will react. a coworker painted the birdhouse red and since then the birds have not been visiting. is the color red the reason the birds are not feasting?

I don't think color has anything to do with whether birds will use a particular birdhouse. I've had red ones and birds nested there until their babies could fly on their own. It is more likely either the paint used or the location of the birdhouse and the time of year that the birds in your area are nesting than it is the color.

Are you talking about a bird house or a feeder.. The color does make alot of difference if it is supose to be there home. they go there to have there young. would you live in a red house.
I would pick out a little mellower color for the house.. I use white for my feeders. and no matter what color if it is a feeder they will come if they are hungary.. once they find food. you won't be able to keep up with them..
but the houses i would pick a softer color.. even green because they will think they are hidden from sight..
they like there homes to be secluded.. just my opinon mind you.

You can indeed paint the birdhouse red. It could be that the birds can still smell the paint. or it could be that it is the wrong time of year for birds to be looking for nesting places. i have the feeling its the latter. If he wants to attract birds, he should put out a feeder, or spinkle bird seed on his sidewalk or patio.

Sure you can sometimes bright colors attracts birds better. If you are unsure about the type of paint to use just as for asssitance if you go to an art supply store. Most of the workers are in art school themselves orhave experince in paints. So they would be the best people to ask which type of paint to use for a bird house.

It is recommended that birdhouses not be painted because the paint can be toxic to birds. It is not the color, it is the paint smell - houses should not be stained nor painted.

You have a silly coworker :) It makes no difference. Maybe the paint that was used had a strong odor?
