It seems to trip when I run the shower in the morning. Once reset, it usually doesn't trip again until the next time I use the shower. The problem was intermittent but has become increasingly consistent. Could it have to do with water level in the well(in kind of a dry spell)? Could it be the breaker?

The breaker blows either because the load on it is too great (this is what iot is designed to do, protect the electrical wiring and pump motor from an overload condition), or because the breaker has become defective.

There is a good chance the pump needs maintenance -- it may be experiencing more friction as part wear out or deposits build up, causing it to consume more power. Lower than normal water levels can aggravate this. This in turn makes the electric motor work harder, pulling more current, and eventually tripping the breaker. Higher than normal demand (constant running to feed the shower for example) can also make this problem occur more frequently.

The other thing to consider is that breakers can go bad in a manner causing them to trip at lower currents than they are rated for. If you know how, you can probably isolate power from reaching the pump breaker and replace the breaker first, which will doubtless be a lot easier than pulling the pump up out of the well for inspection. But if you are not experienced in working on mains power systems, have an electrician do this -- it is fairly easy to get killed doing it if you don't know what you are doing.

I would say if it trips early in morning after it has had all night to replenish the water level is probably not low water level. It could be the pump is just running longer allowing the breaker to get warmer to the point of tripping. This would mean your pump is running pretty close to the amperage rating of Bkr. Also bkr. could be weak. Would try replacing it first. Another possibly more hazardous problem could be your hot water heater comes on while you are taking a shower dropping voltage causing an increase in current on pump. If this is happening is probably because of bad connections in the incoming feed to the breaker box you think this is case you should call a licensed Elect. immediately...

It could easily be a defective breaker, especially if it is old. The pump motor could be having an intermittent short but this is not likely. Usually a motor just shorts and stays that way. I would eliminate the breaker first and then the motor. The easy way is to swap the wires of another breaker of the same size and see what happens. Do not do this yourself if you do not know how. I have had the breakers to crumble in my hands.

Sounds like the circuit is overheating thereby tripping the breaker. Replace the breaker with a higher amperage (if possible)
go another 5amps. Check to make sure the pump is rated below the circuit
amperage and not the same.

To Be honest..i think that all and distinctive of those human beings retaining "Oh in case you want to have it to get stolen or damaged pass for it" No Offence to Them or some thing yet they're extremely being stupid as hell. Your pump is leaking in the electrcial connections and grounding out. It's only kicking on when you start the shower because you are emptying your pressure tank and it needs to re-fill. When you are using small amounts of water the pump is either not called on to refill the pressure tank or it's not running long enough to leak into or onto the pump.

b/4 u do anything do this---try taking a short shower ---you can get good and wet turn water off--soap up and scrub --- then turn on water to rinse off/// you could have a water tank that is not getting full and when you draw down on its water supply may be putting a strain on the pump...another thing u may try is take a water hose and connect it to the drain on your tank drain all the water out then refill it and make sure you open a release valve at the top so it will push out any air trapped inside//

the breaker might have got melted within, also if the bearing of your motor is bad it can contibute in making your electric motor to draw higher current than excepted.Again,if the armature winding of your stator is short can also lead to continous tripping. Also,it is not proper for pump to run dry, check the level of water in your well maybe it have drop below the normal level.

might just have to replace that breaker switch......had similar problems...and it was always the switch
i have a well too.....i don't think the level of the well would have that affect ...unless you've noticed air in the pipes.....
