an e-mail was sent to all of my friends on my list...can I still use my computer and what should I do

Mails like that are usually caused by viruses.
Download and run AVG virus scanner from http://free.grisoft.com/softw/70free/setup/avg71free_405a782.exe for free

Then download and install ZoneAlarm firewall from download.com to block future e-mailing like that. Again, it is free.
