He is an egomanical megalomaniac. Everything in his life has to be about him and he has to control everything in his sphere of reality. He has low self esteem and anyone who disagrees with him is seen as disloyal and he takes it as a personal attack. We have all seen his competitiveness, now imagine when he's turned against you.
She deserves credit for staying with him as long as she did. He is incapable of sharing his life with anyone.

He cheated on her - just like he did when he was married to his first wife and cheated on HER with Sheryl Crow. She claims they were already seperated though when she got the cancer.
