Dealing with an older computer (Dell) that has the case riveted shut. I was just curious if anybody maskes a USB RAM device?

I am afraid not the only way to increase RAM is to get another stick of RAM but that all depends on how much RAM you have in the system now. and I would advice if you don't know how to install RAM to get a tech to do it for you. A tech would know how to get into the case even if riveted.

I highly doubt that the case is riveted shut, I've opened up many computers over the last 10 years and have never found one that didn't open. This is necessary for upgrades such as ram. I'm guessing that you are probably going about opening it the wrong way. Look at the side panels, look for a latch if there are no screws. Maybe there is a panel that just slides off with some pressure. Somewhere, there most definitely is a way to get inside it easily.

I haven't looked, but I doubt anyone makes a USB ram device. If anyone does make it, you don't want it. USB is not nearly fast enough to be of much use for RAM memory. You would be better off adding an extra hard disk and putting a pagefile on it if you can't add real memory.

Just figure out how to open it and buy more ram.

The RAM cannot be upgraded by plugging in a USB device.
But in the upcoming OS Windows Vista, you will be able to plug in in your USB flash drive to increase system performance. Vista will be able to store system data in the USB drive instead of the hard-disk. Improving system performance.
