I seemed to be surrounded by dots and dashes, whizzes and bleeps - confusing.
LOL, IM, writing styles the like of which I've never seen (and, apparently, erased from my memory banks), :), :-P and many more that have overridden mind - are they mistakes or appended designations? How am I ever going to be able to walk amongst you unnoticed? Genuine plea for help - somewhat lost.

LOL is lough out load, IM is instant messaging - they are usually easy to work out!
Also, as a rule, if you turn this kind of thing :) on it's side you will see a simple face and you can work out what it means!

There are books on Texting, but I don't go in for that thing.
Its silly and sad. I have come across lots that must take longer to do than to type out in full.
So you aren't alone, and the next time someone says "don't you know what LOL means?"

Which abbreviations do you need help understanding? You can always just not use them.
With some of them you just have to pronounce them how they sound like m8 is (m) (eight), or mate.
