These sugary drinks are fortified with taurine and caffeine. Taurine is an amino acid that is credited with aiding energy recovery (helps with fat digestion)- helpful when tired - or hung over. Usually deemed most effective in combination with B6. Taurine strangely is not made in the human body in non-adults - so kids dont naturally have this helper. Supplements are typically very small in dose - you'll pee out the rest.
Caffeine is a stimulant - and a diuretic - may make you go number two - so make sure you got time to go....
These drinks will launch you, but may also crash you. When the sugar wears off you may feel more fatigued than if you had not taken the supplement - same effect as a candy bar or Gatorade.
Being properly hydrated, sips of a drink - not drinking a whole bottle, before athletic activity is a good idea too. Drinking too much may make you need to urinate - a real pain with all those pads on!
Early morning, I would say hot oatmeal and maybe a few oz of a sugar drink to get going - then water. I'd skip the caffeine and taurine - and save the $3. Eat the night before, and eat after - you, the consistency of your performance and your stomach will probably be better off.

It might be ok but I sure wouldn't recommend it. As so many others have pointed out it will make you crash after a certain time as well. Sure you may be more awake so it won't be too bad BUT imagine if you were in the middle of a shift and it hit suddenly. Not likely, but could happen. Most of the time you will crash kinda slowly and would be fine BUT when you consider the energy you will be using you realize the problems with speeding up crashing. To the one who said about crashing with Gatorade all I can say is HUH? Gatorade isn't sugery like that, or at least it isn't supposed to be. Although I guess nowadays with everyone insisting on everything being sweet maybe it is as well.

I'd avoid those types of drinks if possible. Don't think it'll hurt in the short run, but I played with a guy that kept increasing the amount over the years because it was losing its effect. When I played with him, he was drinking so many energy drinks and powder that he couldnt sleep after a game because he was so wired...so he'd be awake still at 6am the following day.

I'd say no. Those drinks are terrible for you. Just eat some high carb foods like pasta two or three hours before your game. Energy drinks will leave you burnt out after just an hour or so and they leave you terribly dehydrated.

Yes. I drink a Monster on the way to every game. That will give your stomach enough time to settle.

monster and complete throttle are more effective as a drink. they have a good flavor, and they furnish me with no longer that a lot power, and to me, pink bull is nasty and the equivalent of injecting my bloodstream with 5 pounds of sugar

yes, all it does is wake you up and give you energy, which you probably need playing that early.
