My 16 year old daughter will sleep until 2 or 3 in the afternoon. Is this normal? (I can't remember ever sleeping past 11 or 12.)

I could sleep all day long as a teenager. But, if she isn't doing anything except sleeping you may be concerned. Sleeping for long periods of time can be a sign of depression. On the other hand, there may not be anything wrong. Just tired and lazy. She only has a few more years to enjoy that before she's an adult. If she just went back to school, that could be tiring her out. Even as an adult there are somedays I wish I could stay in bed until 2 or 3 in the afternoon. So unless there is something more then just being a lazy teen, I wouldn't be too concerned.

Yeah it's normal. Now that I'm forced to get up at 5 in the morning I'm only getting 5-6 hours of sleep on school nights since it's impossible for me to go to sleep before 11, but its normal. Many weekends I've gotten 12 hours of sleep....

2 -3 isn't that bad. Depends on how late she stays up, but its not abnormal.

It's totally normal, when I was a teenager due to all the physical activity I was involved I could easily sleep until 2 or 3 like your daughter.

during the summer i my bedtime is whenever, but i do set the alarm to wake me up at 11 am the next morning however i just lay there until 12 or something. I usually dont stay up past 2 am just because i get tired and parents

school = sleep at 10 or 11 pm

i think the reason why ur daughter is sleeping in so late is because she stays up too late. Its perfectly normal. When i wake up i tend to eat lunch because i slept past my breakfast

Yes that's totally normal.. I would do that all the time that I ended up in home school. I would go to bed around midnight and not wake up until 1pm (sometimes 3-4). I read in an article somewhere that teens need a lot of sleep and that's why they are thinking to start school about 10am rather then 7:45am... Who knows if it will happen, but at least its recognized.

Happens when your body clock is out of whack. I'm 20 and I usually go to sleep at about 11-12 and wake up at 5, but I sleep and wake up much later during weekends.

Depends what time she goes to bed. I used to be able to sleep to 2 or 3 but then I was roaming round the city getting into trouble til 4 or 5am. Once I got addicted to video games in my 20s I could play til like 7am and sleep in until 5pm.

When I was this age, I used to go to bed at 10:00 PM and get up at 5:30 AM. In daytime, usually did not sleep at all. I ended my teenage life in 80s.

I would sleep until 11:00 or so, but I would have a nap usually too! It depends what time I got to bed.

My entire life, I have trouble sleeping past 9 am. Now that I'm in my 30's, not past 8 am
