I have a very high IQ, I went to an ivy league university and studied philosophy where the professors of my graduate courses told me I had a special gift for philosophy. Yet somehow I don't have a clue and should stick to the "does he fancy me" questions. Am I secretly retarded, and everyone has been hiding it from me all my life? :(

It was neither rude nor ignorant. It was facetious. By saying 'I take it you've never had a child' etc, I merely meant that those sort of occurences would provide you with exceptionally strong empirical evidence for the existence of others. It was a very good answer. I'm sorry that you could not understand it.
And talk about ignorant... You don't know where I'm from, Donna :)

Aww, somebody's getting angry... Like I said, I wasn't assuming anything about you - just being facetious to prove a point.
And remember, -you- started this by singling me out. I'd otherwise feel no need to tell you anything about my credentials. You should learn to recognize a good philosophical point before criticizing others.

Ok, fair enough. Trucey truce? I was just miffed that you picked my answer over some of the others that were -way- worse. I'll leave it alone now

You answered my question by saying "I take it you have never had a child...." etc, completely missing the entire point of my question. Apart from the fact that it was rude, it was also rather ignorant.
I have never studied philosophy, but I do have a high IQ which prompts me to ask interesting questions - you need to check out some of the other answers I got, that might give you a bit of a clue.
Plus - why am I not a bit surprised that you are an American???
EXTRA: Let's agree to differ. I think your answer was stupid and rude - if you prefer facetious then fine. I take exception to people assuming that I have never had a child (I have) fallen in love (I have) based on a question that anybody with more than three brain cells has asked themself at some point. I assumed (maybe wrongly) that you are from the US since we do not have "ivy league" colleges here. I am happy that you are so proud of your IQ and education that you felt the need to tell us all, however I don't find it all that impressive, particularly considering your inane answer. Sorry. But do have a nice day, won't you.
Not getting angry - just like having the last word! I think you do too, in which case this could go on all night. Actually, I don't really mind arguing with someone half sensible - it's better than the usual "go suck yo mama" kind of crap I get a lot. Sorry I singled you out, I shouldn't have and for that (only) I apologise.

I'll let you in on a big secret - none of us really "has a clue." But many of us like to pretend that we do.
In fact, the fact that you KNOW and admit that you are "clueless" means that you're much smarter than most of the rest of us.
Hmmm, why am I not a bit surprised that the first answerer is British?
Golly gee - us 'Mericans is real dumb. Good thing there are some smarties here:

Don't presume me to be rude, but it may be that you think too much or at too high a level. I see this in my son who has a high IQ. In football, he's great when the action is right in front of him but seems lost when it is away. He isn't lazy and I've often wondered if given the situation, he is just taking too much time processing instead if reacting. (Of course, the coaches often accuse him of being clueless--they can be so erudite.)

yes i believe you are secretly retarded. you havnt a clue of pholosophy till you lived. not just long years but lived the long years experiencing life like what its like to kill some one or some one try to kill you, love some one unconditionally and them you. see a birth of a child of some one you dont know plus any other multitude of things in your life. ivy leage dosnt make you a great philosopher. look at Thorn he was an incredible idealist and philosopher till his murder for his own ideals against nazi germany. but this is just my opinion and this is a two person battle and you oposition seems to be as closed minded as you.

As they say of the wise, those that understand that the more they think they know, the more they know they dont know.
Keep on the path of searching, its fun, its mind expanding and will actually keep your mind young.
